Vintage wedding dresses can be the most romantic of all

Vintage wedding dresses can be the most romantic of all!

When you become engaged to be married, one of the first things a woman thinks of is her wedding dress. You may know exactly the style and fabric you wish to wear on this most special of days. Most women don't. The wedding dress decision usually comes to you when your beloved presents you with that lovely engagement ring. So, where do you start? Looking in bridal shops and bride's magazines can certainly provide a bewildering number of choices. The price of your heart's desire may be enough to make you swoon. On the other hand, vintage wedding dresses, which are becoming increasingly popular, are truly one-of-a-kind, often elaborately detailed and the prices are not nearly so shocking.

In times past, such vintage wedding dresses used great, billowing amounts of fabric, lace, bead work, hand worked embroidered bodices and lovely trains. Fabric was not so costly and a bride could enjoy yards and yards of flowing, layered fabrics to make her feel like the loveliest of fairy princesses on her big day. You'll not find this quality nor hand work in today's wedding dresses at a similar price.

Just as with modern wedding dresses, there is the matter of fit with the vintage wedding dresses. If you need a tuck here or there, or need some other alterations to achieve a perfect fit, a good seamstress can make that dress fit perfectly.

Depending on the age of the vintage wedding dress you choose, some of the fabrics can become slightly yellowed from sheer age. Remember there were no polyesters and such at the time. If the dress fabric has faded, be sure you can return the dress if a dry cleaner cannot correct the condition. If a lace sash is yellowed or perhaps has a small tear or other flaw, it's no big deal to replace the entire sash with one that matches or is more to your liking.

You can also enhance a vintage wedding gown with custom additions that suit your idea of the quintessential romantic wedding gown. For example, perhaps you'd like to add tiny silk roses to the bodice or waistline. Maybe a silk embroidered sash is your dream touch. Go ahead and embellish your dress in any way that pleases you. It's your wedding! Your personal touches will make your wedding dress truly unique. Not another like it in the world.

Where can you find these romantic, nostalgic vintage wedding dresses? Check all of the upscale consignment shops, retro clothing stores, estate sales and antique shops. Some of the thrift shops get fabulous vintage wedding costumes in from time to time. You may even find them in the classified section of the newspaper.

Online, you'll find an astonishing number of vintage clothing shops. Some specialize in vintage wedding dresses. Don't forget to check eBay! Best wishes to you.

For most women, one of the most important aspects of her wedding day is the wedding dress. Many women spend months searching for the perfect gown. The main reason is that most women have a very specific design in mind when they picture themselves on their wedding day.

Although there are many breathtaking wedding gown styles produced each year, some women are looking for something more traditional. They may consider purchasing one of the many vintage wedding dresses now being made available.

With the introduction of the online auction sites can an influx of people selling vintage items. Everything from cars to toys are being sold along with a very wide array of vintage wedding dresses. In fact, there are so many different styles available that it can be difficult deciding on one.

Just as you have to consider certain things when purchasing any item of clothing, the same holds true for vintage wedding dresses. If you are purchasing one at a local consignment shop, be certain to try it on first. If you ever have the opportunity to try the dress on, this will guarantee the best fit. However, if that’s not possible, as is the case with purchasing vintage wedding dresses online, you can always have them altered.

Another consideration to keep in mind is whether the dress is soiled. Although this generally won’t be the case in a consignment store, if you are purchasing vintage wedding dresses online, you can’t be certain. Most sellers will showcase an image of the dress and it’s wise to also inquire as the condition of the dress. The difficult with soiling is that on vintage wedding dresses if something has been left to sit, the stain will most likely be permanent.

Also give some thought to shipping costs. Having anything shipped is expensive, considering both the postal costs and the insurance. In the case of vintage wedding dresses you will need to have enough insurance on the package to cover the contents in the even that something does happen before it reaches your home.

Once the big day has passed you’ll need to think about how to preserve the gown. The drycleaners is usually the best choice for having vintage wedding dresses cleaned and preserved. If possible, try and have this done as soon as possible after the wedding day. You want to keep the dress looking beautiful forever so it’s important to leave that to a professional.

You want to look your best on your wedding day, so choose a gown that reflects your body shape as well as your personality. Vintage wedding dresses add an extra touch to your already very special day.
